Business

Students need to understand that the finance function manages the financial activities of a business, including start-up finance, the preparation and creation of financial accounts, maintaining financial records, paying bills and analysing financial performance. This includes break even, profit and loss accounts and cash flow forecasts. We also study human resources which involves the recruitment, training, organisation, retention, development and motivation of employees. We will continue to develop skills to answer case study based questions and develop extended answers. To support lessons, students should watch the business news or follow pages such as BBC news and Walesonline on social media. All of the work is on google classroom for any students who miss the lessons.

History

Students will be completing  the outline study ‘Changes in Health and Medicine, 1340 to present day’.  They are examining the causes of illness, treatments and cures, prevenative measures, advances in knowledge, patient care and attitudes to public health over time.. To support students with the development of their knowledge, students are regularly set independent learning tasks and complete a series of self test activities at the end of each section.  All students  have been issued with a booklet containing  the information they need for this module. They will be using chromebooks and exercise books to complete tasks, including assessments, examination technique and independent learning..  After half term students will be completing the Non Examined Assessment (coursework) unit for their GCSE examinations.

Religious Studies

This term students will be discovering more about beliefs and practices surrounding relationships. They will consider the impact of religious teachings on the lives of people today and will explore rites of passage such as marriage. In addition, they will explore different attitudes towards contraception, divorce and remarriage and will evaluate the extent to which women and men play equal roles within religion today.

 

Business

Year 11 will complete the course by studying the impact of external factors on business including laws, taxes and interest rates with Mrs Politi. They will also be studying Business finance with Mrs Morgan, looking at the profitability and cash flow aspects.  We will  begin revision of key topic areas and past paper question practice.

History

Students have just started the NEA (coursework) unit on the Civil Rights movement in the USA in the 1950s and 60s. Students are required to complete two essays for their NEA.   After half term we  will then begin revision of the USA 1910-29 and Changes in Health and Medicine and past paper question practice.

Public Services

In this term we move on to LO3 for Unit 9 (volunteering) where the students will aim to complete their volunteering activity and write up about this activity.  For unit 5 LO3 explores the safety aspects that need to be considered when taking part in adventurous activities, before LO4 requires the students to actually take part in a number of land and sea based activities.

Religious Studies

This term Year 11 will be developing their knowledge and understanding of Judaism. They will learn about the history of the religion, find out about important figures and festivals. Knowledge and understanding will be developed through the use of a variety of learning methods such as discussion, research, modelling and exam skill tasks.

BUSINESS

Year 11 have completed the course and we will be focusing on revising key topics in preparation for the exams. We will also study the exam requirements so students know how to answer questions successfully on both paper 1 and paper 2.  Both papers assess content from all six topic areas, so students will be required to draw together knowledge, skills and understanding from across the subject content in each assessment. Paper 1 is a traditional exam paper format with a combination of short and long answer questions; whereas paper 2 is based on case studies and students must respond to the information provided. Additionally, we will practice mathematical techniques as 10% of the total marks are for calculation questions. 

Religious Studies

This term Year 11 will be refining their exam skills in preparation for the final exams. They will revisit key religious teachings and ethical issues. Knowledge and understanding will be developed through the use of a variety of learning methods such as exam walk-throughs, modelling and timed exam skill tasks.
